Although we did not have the opportunity to enjoy her for very long, Jaquita was one of the mares that we remember with much fondness. Jaquita’s condition was reported to us by a neighbour in Algeciras, and the first time we saw her it seemed we may already have been too late. Nonetheless we were able to rescue her and give her a second chance at the CYD. Unfortunately, sometimes physical deterioration and sadness are so profound in a horse that even with the best care and all the love in the world, it is impossible to change an irreversible situation. When a horse arrives at the CYD after many months of barely being fed, we need more or less a year to achieve a substantial improvement. But sadly, with Jaquita, we did not have that time, and a few months after coming to stay with us she left as quietly as she had arrived, without disturbing anyone…
