The first time we saw her she was lying in her own excrement …but when we took her in and began caring for her illness, her general health took a great turn for the better. Sometimes chronic illnesses require not so much medical care but above all love and concern for the improvement of the patient…of course, always along with veterinary support. Setting aside an animal in our care because it is ill is not an option…if not only for reasons of ethics perhaps indeed for reasons of self-interest. If we teach our children to abandon and ignore those that suffer, what will happen to us if we are ever homeless and in need of help?
